Piece by Piece

Out of no where, a few of our friends have become quite obsessed with puzzles. Yes, puzzles. Several of them ask to stay in for kid time just to work on puzzles. Unfortunately we don't have many challenge puzzles to choose from, so they are content just redoing the same ones again and again. I promised them I would soon purchase some more! My hope is that they will continue to be fascinated by puzzles because they really do require quite a bit of team work! Here are a few snapshots below of their masterpieces!

Body Shapes

This week in math we have been focusing on the different attributes of shapes - the size, colors, thickness, and names of each shapes. They love watching how the shapes can rotate, grow, and/or change on our SMART Board. We decided to take over the dome to see if we could work as teams to create shapes with our bodies!
The students did a magical job. The rules were that only the leader could talk, they had to work as a team to create the shape and they had to hold that shape until they were checked off!
Look at how we did! Click on the Pictures to Have them Enlarged!

Well...it is finally starting to feel like winter out, and for a few hours it even looked like winter! So we decided to embrace it and bundle up in our warm mittens and hats and use adjectives to describe our mittens! Here is what we came up with!

MSU Theatre

On Thursday afternoon we got a special surprise and the MSU theater came and put on a show for us! It was about a bee named Benny that was different than all the other bees. At first the other bees made fun of him and left him out. But in the end they realized how special he was and that they were all different from each other. Benny came back to the group and they all agreed that everyone is different and that they all need to appreciate each others differences. Here are a few snapshots of the play!

Stacey Valenzuela - Real Estate Agent

Tabitha's mother, Stacey came to talk to us about what she does as a real estate professional in the Mankato area. She showed us some of the kinds of houses she sells, how she gets into those homes, and some important that parents might think about before purchasing a new home. They even got to learn the secret code that she uses to unlock all the home she sells! It was a like solving a fun puzzle! We had a great time with Mrs. Valenzuela and they all took home a book and business card with her information in it - so parents, you know who to call if you're looking! Enjoy the photos below!

Eye Doctor, Ear Doctor and Energy!

On Wednesday we had Marissa's parents come in to talk to us about what they do for their careers.
Marissa's father, Matt, is an eye doctor. Or as he taught us, an optometrist. He let us try on some glasses and look at some of his books, he showed us some of the tools he uses and told us how he helps keep our eyes healthy.
Marissa's mother, Lynn, is an ear doctor or as she taught us, an audiologist. She showed us some of the tools she uses everyday, why her job is important, and she even showed us the inside of Marissa's ear! This showed us a healthy amount of wax, where our ear drums are, and what the inside of our ears should look like.
